Donnie Darko - the director's cut
Aug. 8th, 2004 09:14 pmThe first time I had even seen Donnie Darko was at
masochistmonkey's place on DVD. In that time, I saw the majority of the extras (which included Roberta Sparrow's book) along with the deleted scenes.
Making Pittsburgh the 5th city to debut it, the director's cut of Donnie Darko opened at The Oaks Friday evening.
joi_division and I were sure to catch it.
The director's cut of this film restores many of the deleted scenes from the DVD/original theatrical release, along with excepts from The Philosophy of Time Travel, effectively dividing the film into chapters. Many things are clarified within the "Darko universe" without the uncertainty and open-ended nature of the film itself and the questions it evokes being compromised.
I think that the director's cut of Donnie Darko will become the definitive version of the film, much in the same way that the director's cut of The Abyss was a more full movie, spared so much studio butchery.
