Last night I was complaining about how my sound card has suddenly gone strange on me. Instead of playing beautiful music and whatnot, it was giving me static and whistling noises. Thus, this afternoon once I arrived home from work, I moseyed on over to the Creative Labs website to try and suss out what was what. I decided that the best course of action would be to update my drivers. I did that, restarted my system and found that nothing had changed.

Frustrated, I pulled my tower out of it's cubby hole in my desk to see if a connection was loose. While all of the connections were nice and snug, the port running from my sound card to the external hub was severely dusty. I gave it a good puff and lo, the static was no more.

So, here's the lesson: keep you equipment clean, because that $300 sound card can be defeated by a bunch of dead skin cells. At least I have new drivers.
