Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Monday
Mar. 25th, 2003 04:56 pmI received a call from the temp agency this morning about an upcoming job assignment. It's an overnight gig - 9:00PM-6:00AM on weekdays - that I otherwise wouldn't have accepted save for the fact that I need the money. In any case, I had thought that the job would have started either yesterday or this evening. As it turns out, the agency's client was slow in returning voicemails left by the agency, meaning that the job didn't start yesterday for me. At this juncture, I thought that it would be starting tonight, or at least sometime this week. Instead, the call I received this morning was to inform me that I wouldn't be working until next Monday.
Usually this wouldn't bother me, as I'm not a great fan of having to work anyhow. However, as I already indicated, I need the cash. While one gets paid weekly when temping, there is usually a weeklong lag from when one starts an assignment to when one gets a paycheque. For example, if I were to work all week this week from Monday until Friday, I would not see the pay for the hours put in until the following Thursday. This was the one reason I had kind of hoped that this assignment would start this week: I wanted to see some positive cash flow by the end of next week.
Still, having an upcoming assignment and the accompanying pay that comes with it is better than having nothing at all. I will simply have to be frugal for a little while longer. Thus, I shall limit myself to one or two drinks when I go out to the club this weekend...not that I don't already do that. I refuse to dance when I'm completely shit-faced. I just look prettier when I'm co-ordinated.
