Caught...now what?
Dec. 14th, 2003 01:49 pmIt's the big story du jour, perhaps even of the week or, if I dare try and strech it like Fox or CNN, the month: Saddam Hussein has been captured. I'm quite certain that the Bush administration finds this to be a lovely little early Christmas gift. Meanwhile, the talking heads on all of the news networks are all squawking about what "an historic event" this is and even postulating that should Saddam and all of his minions be sent to a war crimes tribunal, it could be "more interesting," if not "bigger" than the Nuremberg trials. Personally, I think that's giving Saddam and his boys just a little too much credit, but in the United States we have a news media that is more than willing to make it seem larger than life. Watching the news has become more exciting than going to the movies and everyday, inches ever closer to the hyperbole of sensationalism found in Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.
