A hybrid would be lovely
Oct. 25th, 2007 05:21 pmEarlier this week, I went with a friend to see Porcupine Tree in Cleveland. While Porcupine Tree is one of (if not) the best rock bands in existence today, with their latest album Fear of a Blank Planet being a progressive masterpiece, I'm not talking music this time around...at least not as the primary focus. No, the subject at hand here is the vehicle used to travel to Cleveland.
Cleveland is only about two hours from Pittsburgh, by way of the Turnpike. Even so, my friend prefers to rent a car for the journey, rather than taking his own vehicle (which not only save wear on said vehicle, but also leaves it available to his wife at home should the need arise). It just so happened that for the rental this time around, the company gave him a hybrid car - no prompting, it was simply what they had on the lot and that's what he received. In the drive from Pittsburgh to Cleveland and back again, this vehicle only used one-eighth of a tank of gasoline! In comparison, trips to Cleveland and back in a conventional car generally eat up half to three-quarters of a tank, depending on traffic conditions.
In less than two weeks, I am going to be renting a car in order to drive to Albany to play a show. Having seen the type of mileage a hybrid vehicle gets first-hand, I want one! Gasoline is expensive - obviously - and the less I have to spend on dead dinosaurs, the better. This will leave me with more money for things like food, seeing as how CD sales are never guaranteed. I can also pretend I'm all hip and shit by saying to people, "yeah, see that car...it's a hybrid."
But mostly I just want to save on gas.
