New feline family members

Lyndsey and I were recently given two tuxedo cats, brother and sister, both five month old kittens. They arrived at our house yesterday afternoon. Frightened by the new environment, they both attempted to go into hiding when brought out of the carrier. However, the female, who we named Penelope, or Penny for short, was soon lounging on the window sill in the living room with seemingly not a care in the world. Meanwhile her brother, who we named Sylvester, took to hiding under the sofa.

This was yesterday evening. As of tonight, Sylvester has been out and about and, while still skittish, he's acclimating nicely being playful and sociable. Penelope, on the other hand, has gone missing.

Neither Lyndsey nor myself have any idea where she could have hidden. Earlier in the evening, I heard sad meowing coming from the kitchen. It sounded like it was coming from behind the refrigerator. This led me to empty the appliance of all the food within so I could wrestle it from the alcove it sat in. Lyndsey got home just in time to see me, a wreck of adrenaline, looking into an alcove where a fridge once stood with no evidence of a cat having ever been there.

I've nearly torn the house apart looking for Penelope and, aside from those brief meows, have no guide to let me know where she could be. Right now I could use a minor miracle, as I'd rather not have to deal with the worst case scenario...especially not so soon after adopting a new family member.

UPDATE: As of 12:34AM, Sunday, April 4th we found Penelope. She had hidden behind the stove, squeezing into a tight space where she couldn't turn around and get back out.
