An Italian theatre was forced to close down and re-open with a revised performance of a play because a patron complained about the lead character smoking. This has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever read! It's a fucking play - you don't get to change it because you don't like plot elements, set pieces, or props! Why don't you just go up to the playwright and spit in his face?

What should have happened is that the complaining patron should have been gently escorted out - without a refund. A ban on smoking in public buildings is one thing, but "secondhand Nazis" like this guy should be slapped for what amounts to ruining art.

What gets me here is that Italy has more habitual smokers in their population than almost any other country in Europe. Are we sure this woman mentioned in the article wasn't an American 'Pro-Lifer' as well?

Whatever it was, it had no business interrupting the play - that they acquiesced to her requests is what is truly ludicrous!
