Time off around the world
Dec. 21st, 2006 05:00 pmWhen capitalism and consumerism run amok, they become what I call "Corporate Feudalism." Feudal societies were characterised by a few wealthy landowners - or Lords - holding sway over masses of underprivileged people known as Serfs. Does this sound somewhat familiar to anyone? As it stands, the United States, long suffering from the plague of new Republicanism is in an era of Corporate Feudalism where a few control most of the wealth while the rest of us peasants are left to met it out in lower income brackets.
All of this came to mind due to a chart of average vacation time around the world posted in Goofyblog (France rocks, by the way) and a brief piece in the Huffington Post.
Who is our (the United States') economy for? I'll tell you right now: it's for the rich and powerful who get their kicks dropping bombs and telling others how they should live (or else).
