illusionofjoy: (No Obama)

I received the following message on my voice mail:

"My name is Irma and I'm a volunteer for Barack Obama for America. I just wanted to call you to remind you to go to your early polling station this May and vote for Obama. Thank you, have a nice day."

Irma sounded elderly, and while the Obama campaign may have given her the wrong script to read from, I just found it sad that she didn't seem to realise that it's November and the election is three days away. Also, there's no early voting in Pennsylvania, which is as it should be - I am against early voting because it is a surreptitious way of creating inequality within the electorate.

My aunt and uncle have to fly to Pheonix so she can have an operation. They voted today since it's too close to the election. I'm kind of for being able to vote early.

Some how I think the six hour wait for voting machines in the ghetto is how they surreptitiously create inequality in the electorate and you've just found a nice way to slip in some nice long words.

The situation facing your aunt and uncle should have qualified them for absentee ballots, which is different from early voting.

As for waiting excessively long periods of time in lines at polling stations and why I think early voting creates inequality - those are both rants I'll write about at a time when I'm not dead tired.

Actually no, absentee ballots can not be obtained this close to the election.

Figures - should be, but can't be. And people wonder why I keep screaming about reforming this system.

Is that what your screaming about?
See I've been screaming about the invasion of the polar bear cavalry, maybe I shouldn't stand so close to you when I do it. People might not be taking us seriously together.

Well, they should be - you can't trust those polar bears.
