Fuck the season!
Dec. 13th, 2003 01:38 pmYesterday evening
missjoi and I went to her office's Christmas party. It was being held in a small restaurant downtown, where she and I were both thinking that we'd be served a nice meal with salads and side dishes and such. Instead, she had paid about $14 for each of us to attend a buffet-style appetizer-fest. There were five "entrees" to choose from, none of which comprised a meal in of themselves nor a combination of which did either. I told Joi flat-out that she had been ripped-off.
We ended up leaving the affair quite early, but only after making two trips to the buffet upon discovering that no actual meals were to be forthcoming. I had wanted to go to a concert last night, but ended up not doing so because Joi is too sick to really do anything and it was too short of a notice to try and call up any of my other friends to go. As it were, I spent the night with Joi - she coughing like a lifetime smoker (which she isn't) due to this disease that she can not shake, while the remnants of my cold added subtle flourishes to the orchestra of her coughs.
Since I've been working overtime this week, I haven't really a chance to do any holiday shopping, or really think about it. Honestly, I just want to ignore all that bullshit, however so indoctrinated am I into this society that I'd actually feel bad if I didn't get my friends and family something...well, my friends anyhow...mostly...
In any case, the dreaded 25th is less than two weeks away, meaning that anything I'd need to mail out needs to be mailed out now. Thankfully, this mandatory Saturday at my job was cancelled, leaving me the whole day to play the worthy capitalist. Furthermore, I'll be able to stop by the local Radio Shack and bitch about how they shipped me the wrong rechargeable battery for my cell phone, hopefully getting it replaced with the correct rechargeable battery.
Joi's too sick to go to Ceremony tonight and I don't feel like going. In fact, thinking about all the crap I have to get done today, I would really like to go back to bed...even if it is the afternoon. Dammit...
