Well, faithful readers, I know you've all been waiting on pins and needles to hear about my experience going to see Henry Rollins perform spoken word at the Byham. Indeed, you are all surely dying to know what it was like, so that you can live the experience vicariously through me. You really wanna know what it was like?

It was fucking awesome!

I am thoroughly convinced that Henry Rollins is one of the most fascinating workaholics on the face of the planet. Anyone who can speak for three hours without drawing one yawn from my mouth has my seal of approval.

This was actually one of his lighter shows, the levity dropping when he began talking about seeing a little girl with her leg blown off in a hospital in Afghanistan and also when he encouraged everyone in the audience to go out and vote. Otherwise, the show was filled with humorous anecdotes about going to the premier of Kill Bill with his screenwriter friend, recording with William Shatner and Ben Folds, playing Rollins' Band concerts in foreign countries, chasing a burglar away from his house and so much. Quite frankly, I cannot do the experience justice with mere words on a page. I do implore those reading, however...the next time he comes to town: go! Do it! You won't regret it!

I have seen his show twice, it was always really good. He was also just in Rochester a few weeks ago, but I wasn't able to go because of work. STUPID WORK!!

I remember reviewing a tape he released ages ago which was just the kind of mixture you mention, and it opened my eyes to what he was like. Black Flag were second division rubbish, and yet here was a granite-jawed comic genius.

Agreed - while I find myself unable to get into Black Flag, save a few songs, experiencing Henry Rollins in the purest form of a solo performance is something I find riveting.

Also, thanks for the link and the mention in your journal. It's nice to be deemed worthy, as it were.
