I believe that the time has come to modify my profile on PGH Goth Personalities. Over the past year, I have had more utter morons send me instant messages from by virtue of that site that I really care to deal with. Either the IM name has to be removed or I have to add a disclaimer, something along the lines of, "If you think that I'm going to entertain you or you have doubts about your IQ being in the double digits, do not IM me!"

I've been called an elitist before and at this point, I happily embrace the label. Time and time again I've said that I hate the kids...well, quite frankly, I do. And let's get one thing straight: when I say "the kids" I am not referring to those who are merely under 21 (bonamoz alone has proven the potential for coolness of that age group - she gives me hope); I am referring to those who think that just because they are the pariahs of their high school who happen to wear black and listen to angst-ridden music (oh yeah - KoRn...feel the fucking anguish) that their flavour of nonconformity must be Goth. Yeah, I'm a fucking elitist...while I don't expect all Goths to look and act alike, I do expect certain defining characteristics in someone claiming to be a Goth. But more on that bullshit later...

Tonight, for the umpteenth time, I was the recipient of a random IM by someone who had found my PGH Goth profile. The conversation and my sardonic comments are as follows:

Great, I don't know you and you haven't even bothered introducing yourself. A breach of internet etiquette right off the bat. We're already off to a great start.

Here's a bit of truth: there is no resurgence; the Goth subculture is sinking faster than a frog that has been force-fed buckshot. If I am a fool for having some frame of reference as to what Goth actually is, then so be it.

My profile "shined" more than the others? That's a load of bullshit! I have little to no information on my profile - there's a photograph of me, some contact info and the phrase, "Ian Curtis already died for your sins; I refuse to." My profile doesn't shine; it is a bare-bones wasteland that should be utterly uninviting. Quite frankly, I was hoping that my profile would effectively weed out the fuckwits, because people would be forced to go to my website(s) and dig a but deeper before deciding to send me a message. It seems, however, that I was glaringly wrong. Instead, I am getting these young girls who, for god knows why, must think I'm cute or something, IMing me because I might "entertain" them. Excuse me? Where on my profile do I say that I am a source of entertainment? And even if I were, do they honestly expect this service to be free?

Here's how it works: I am not your personal IM bot who spits out amusing phrases when you ask it if it's a fucker. If you've nothing to say or no business with me, resist the urge to click my screen name!

I hate to break it to you, but I am under 21, and you have just provided me with quality entertainment.
Also, underage females using the PGHGOTH personality list in an attempt to be amused by random men is very sad, not to mention pathetic.

On another note, I'm not sure where she got the idea of your list picture standing out, but your LJ avatar is nearly demonically seductive. I had to tell you that, I hope you don't mind.

I cashed in my entry in the local Hall of Fame about six months ago since, well, I really don't have much to do with the PGHGoth listserv anymore--aside from randomly posting some New Wave nonesense on it every couple of months in the hopes that *some* friggin' kid will learn about good music--and everyone in "the scene" who wants to know me or who SHOULD know me already does. :)

I can't imagine people just IMing you out of the blue without digging around a little first- like your live journal. I mean, that place is just rich in information about you and your life (and why I keep mine locked anymore).

True, you've been provided with entertainment (the quality of which is up for debate), but the journal entry was something I volunteered, not something you came begging for me to give you. It's a pity that some people don't realise that the random people they IM from PGH Goth more likely than not feel the same way.
