The great winter cleaning of 2005, which I dubbed my attempt to restore my apartment to a state not unlike the sterile environment of a hospital, was not entirely unsuccessful. Currently, there are no more dishes fermenting in my kitchen sink, leaving me to only deal with the ones on the counter. Meanwhile, I managed to scrub down all of the bathroom fixtures, which in of itself, I count as a major victory. If I keep working towards the goal with these little steps, I'll eventually get where I want to be. I just have to keep repeating that to myself.

I ended up with an extra-long weekend, as I book ended the regular long weekend with my two remaining vacation days from last year. Friday was when the bulk of the cleaning was done, while the rest of the time was mostly spent with [livejournal.com profile] joi_division. It has come to the point where I simply sleep better when she is in bed with me. I suppose that it is a comfort thing, but when I'm alone in bed, I tend to have trouble getting to sleep. Such is not the case when she is there. In fact, it is so easy to fall asleep just lying next to her, that on several occasions we've just been laying together, only to find that we've both passed out a little too long and she needs to drive me home so I can get to bed for work the next day. Of course, after being woken from the nap, once I'm back at my place, I can't get to sleep again very easily (which is the case now).

Today I got back to the daily grind that is work. Last Friday they had a "Black & Gold Day" in my building, a sort of pep rally for the Steelers, seeing as how such things are appropriate now that the team is actually winning games. In any case, as [livejournal.com profile] ls56 described it in her journal, it was my vision of hell on Earth. I was never one for pep rallies in high school, much preferring to waste my time in study hall, writing bad poetry, rather than having my time wasted for me by a bunch of goobers yelling, "go team! Go!"

I remember reading a while ago - in a movie review, of all things - that "if you liked high school, you'll love the workforce." Indeed, since joining the ranks of corporate America, I've observed many similarities between the office and the classroom (not to exclude college, but I think that a campus is a but of a mutated monster, so I won't touch upon it here). Getting back to the subject at hand, "Black & Gold Day" is an opportunity for the entire company to dress up in the team colours, eat stadium-style food in the cafeteria (and then crap said stadium-style food out in the lavatory thirty minutes later, no doubt) and hear that god awful "Pittsburgh Steelers, here we go" song ad-nauseam. This was the scene which I missed last Friday.

This afternoon, I received an email notifying me that I'd be able to experience what I had gladly missed last week at the end of this week. Due to the success of "Black & Gold Day" last Friday, they were having a second one, ever-so-creatively dubbed, "Black & Gold Day II." I rolled my eyes and resolved myself to heading to Subway for lunch this coming Friday. At least I had been warned that this was coming - although the unnecessarily image-intensive email took nearly five minutes to open.

As I mentioned previously, the bulk of my days off were spent with Joi. I did go out on Friday to Electro-Retro to catch [livejournal.com profile] oneirophrenia spin. On Monday, Joi and I went to dinner with her parents, which was nice. Other than those two instances, I can't readily recall going out much during my break, except to restaurants (one of which a waitress was left a tip totalling only 10% of the bill, for her lacklustre service).

That about sums it up, for the moment.
