My latest "redneck asswipe" award goes out to Mark Smith, who thinks that he should be allowed to shoot any stray cat that may wander onto his property. His only argument to support this position is that cats disturb the wild birds on his property that he enjoys watching. He has gone so far as to propose legislation in his home state of Wisconsin which would allow him to commit such a heinous act.

Understandably and rightfully so, there is outrage. Almost immediately after Smith made the proposal, Ted O'Donnel posted the website Don't Shoot The Cat. The main focus of the site is to prevent the legislation from being passed, based on cat-centric arguments.

I, however, have a better idea: if cats are going to be set in the sights of a gun, then I believe that I should be allowed to cap the stupid neighbour dog that always walks over to my yard to take a dump. I should also be allowed to blow the tires out of a car that parks in my space. If someone throws litter in my yard, it should be legal for me hunt the perpetrator down and beat him or her within an inch of their life. Also, if I don't like wild birds in my yard, I should have the right to blow them out of the sky, the same way Mr. Smith would be allowed to murder my cat.

This is stupid legislation that shouldn't have even been proposed - and certainly shouldn't be passed. I hope that the next time Mr. Smith takes a young nephew or niece to the zoo, he finds himself leaning a little too far over the railing at the tiger pit.
