Let me sweeten your burden
Mar. 25th, 2005 05:03 pmJust in time for Easter, Russel Stover candies is now making chocolate crosses. Of course, some people - particularly priests - are taken aback by the idea that the cross would be sold as foodstuff. I'm surprised that parents aren't taken aback by the fact that a chocolate cross could be a choking hazard, what with all of those protruding pieces. And where's PETA with the outrage over all of those chocolate bunnies horribly mutilated and devoured over the years?
Of the chocolate crosses, Russel Stover President Tom Ward was quoted saying that he expects they will appeal to customers who "wouldn't buy rabbits." In addition, other traditional Easter images were eschewed for the sake of good taste; "a molded Jesus, for example, would not be a good call and a cross with Jesus on it wouldn't be a good idea either."
I don't know...a chocolate crucifix could be a new form of communion. Are we to say that it is only okay to consume the body of Christ so long as it doesn't look like the body of Christ? Why settle for the flatbread of a traditional communion wafer? I think a chocolate Christ is a great idea - instead of the last supper, it could be the last dessert. If you make a variation with raspberry filling, you could have the body and blood of Christ all in one.
I am so going to hell.
