illusionofjoyLocals of the Zanzibar Spice islands have believed in a demon whose modus operandi is to sodomize men and women in their own beds. For no reason in particular, Reuters recently ran an article about this entity, known as Popo Bawa. I have no doubt that the terror people feel is real; perception is reality. The Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal takes a logical approach towards explaining this phenomenon, citing the medical conditions of sleep paralysis and waking dreams. Naomi Darvell takes a more psychological approach in a column for Clean Sheets, basically saying that all demons are of human manufacture, the result of our personal belief structures.
