From news.com.au: A woman on her third pregnancy was told that she was too obese to deliver in a certain hospital because they lacked the facilities "facilities to cope with the increased risks." A quick read of the article cries "fat-phobia" to me. This woman had already filled out the paperwork to give birth at said hospital. The appropriate time to tell her to hit the road should have been before she put pen to paper. Meanwhile, the fact that she's already given birth twice prior kind of bodes in her favour, unless she suddenly ballooned up to 242lbs. (which isn't even that fat, unless you're some asshole "obesity epidemic" shrill).

You know I've been told, time and again, that I wont' be able to have a baby until I lose weight. Plain and simple, "it will kill you" is what I always get. Know what pisses me off though? I know plenty of fat women who have given birth. Anyway...on to the article, which is going to piss me off I'm sure!

A better question would be this: why would you want a baby in the first place? I doubt the pregnancy and the delivery would kill you, but the child-rearing process destroys the soul and slowly turns otherwise sane individuals into their parents. Then one day, you look into the mirror, see your mother or father looking back at you and break down, crying, "what happened! How did I get this way?"

Or so I've heard... :P

The fact that she didn't set off the doc/nurse's Danger!meter during that interview and tour suggests that she can't be all that big. I'd bet more on bureaucracy than outright fat-phobia.
