I do wonder if the United States is turning into a police state. Today, the House approved a measure to outlaw flag burning. I assume this means all flag burning, leaving open the question as to what will be done with a flag so ragged and worn with age that it has outlived it's usefulness. Burning is the traditional form of disposal. However, the right-wing, in all it's myopia is trying to stop flag burning as a form of protest, which is a direct affront to the 1st Amendment. Burning the flag sends a powerful symbolic message, which is why it should be protected under the edicts of free speech. Sadly, I'm seeing signs that powerful messages - symbolic or otherwise - are all on the brink of being quashed.

I find it interesting and alarming, yet not unexpected that the Republicans are now making their move to cut funding for public broadcasting. They've been trying to kill it for years, always ready with the excuse that it was a waste of money and flinging about accusations for "liberal bias." If you ask me, I think there's was too much conservative bias in the media these days.

And the thing of it all is that nobody really cares or wants to believe it. At least, that's how I feel when I read some of the moronic letters sent to my local newspaper stating that, "minorities should get used to submitting to the will of the majority." Now, isn't that an inviting statement? Sends chills down my spine...
