What's with the black?

As I walked from the trolley station to my apartment building this afternoon, a male twenty-something with short, bleached hair caught up with me. "How can you wear all of that; aren't you hot," he asked, "I'd be hot in all of that." I quickly thumbed through my mental rolodex of boilerplate responses and replied with, "I'm not you."

"Yeah, but we're all connected," he said. We both paused at an intersection, waiting for the light to change so we could cross, when he decided to continue the conversation; "What kind of music do you listen to?"

I was perplexed. I told him that I listened to "anything which sounded good." It's the truth.

"Oh," he replied. "I got this vibe that you might be into..." He then mentioned a band I'd never heard of, and upon seeing my confusion, told me that it was an acid jazz group.

We then crossed the street. He went one direction and I went another. As we parted ways, he called out to me, "Peace be with you on the fair path" (or something similar). "See you around," was all I said.

Too late, World Naked Gardening Day has already passed. Next year, I plant nothing with thorns, and invest heavily in calamine lotion.
