In New Orleans...or what's left of it, police may use force to remove any remaining residents who disobey the order to evacuate. I find this pretty funny, in a sad way. Are they saying that they're going to injure anyone who would willfully stay; people who would probably get killed by the filth in the floodwater anyhow? I guess I can understand why the mayor would give such an order. Nobody wants to add to the number of corpses already floating in the water.

Meanwhile, September 11th is fast approaching and I've gotten word that many are planning on celebrating "Patriot's Day." Excuse me..."celebrating?" Yes, their words, not mine. Honestly, I think the events of September 11th are nothing that need to be celebrated. Remembered, yes, but I'd hate to think that the day would become something that people just spent gorging themselves on hot dogs and giving themselves a slap on the back for being American.

The name "Patriot's Day" still irks me too. It's a Bushism, purposely made to distort the context of what happened on September 11th. There were no minutemen with muskets fighting for the independence of the thirteen colonies in 2001...there were just a bunch of panicked airline passengers and office workers who never saw it coming. These weren't patriots; these were common people of all sorts of nationalities (World Trade Center, remember?) thrown into extraordinarily tragic circumstances. But, Bush molded the name as yet another hook from which to suspend his war against Iraq (and anyone else, for that matter).

I can't help but think that if I were a denizen of what was once New Orleans, I couldn't care less about September 11th right about now.

I tend to have a very different opinion than most people on the New Orleans thing.

Ya know? If you want to stay in your house and the water, feel free. Less people to deal with. Put an X on your house, we will come back in two weeks and see if you are dead yet.

(I have very different ideas on death and populations, and its not easy to share them without seeming like an insensitive bitch. But, im sorry, I would much rather the police force be helping those who want to be helped, let the others fend for themselves. Like the ones that stayed in their houses, "Oh, I dont want to leave, this is my home, if its my time to go, then God says its my time." Good for you, just dont cry for help to the real world, turn to God and he will help you.)
