Read the monkey's lips: no new taxes
Sep. 16th, 2005 06:07 pmFunny thing about bills - you can't write "return to sender, did not order" on the envelope and expect them to just go away. Not even if you are the president of the United States. Once again, flying in the face of traditional Republican values - like, say, not spending what you don't have - George Bush has ruled out tax hikes for funding the Katrina recovery.
I guess this is good news in that my taxes won't be going up. The government gets more than their fair share of my adequate salary, as far as I'm concerned. Frankly, were I able to fill out a customer satisfaction form, I'd be demanding a refund, claiming that I did not get a satisfactory government for the price I've paid.
Still, all of that money will eventually have to come from somewhere. Given the trends, it looks like the poor and middle class will be sucked dry for the fiscal sins of Bush II for decades to come. If I may, I'd like the IRS to send me an itemised statement regarding what I owe for the price of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, coupled with Katrina relief.
Of course, the simple solution would be to re-instate the tax cuts the rich got when Bush first took office. Then again, the chimp doesn't want to lose any wealthy friends.
