I just stumbled upon a website, which I won't link from here, wherein the author offers advice to fledgling bands as to how they can go about recording a demo at home. Suffice it to say, that I found most of what I read cringe-worthy. For example when recording drums, this site advises the percussionist to record every single instrument on the kit once, sample them into Fruityloops and then program the beat they were going to play. Why even bother with sampling in the first place, when you're going to effectively use a drum machine anyhow? The Fruityloops presets probably sound better than Johnny Garage's hand-me-down kit anyhow!

I could go on, but I'm getting irked. Anyone serious about making a good recording should lurk around Prosoundweb and their forums for a while. That place is a goldmine.
