illusionofjoy: (Hillary Clinton 2008)

So, a bit of soul-crushing for us Hillary supporters (but don't worry, we're used to it, along with being called "racists" and "out of touch" and "divisive," etc.)...

The results for Indiana favoured Hillary Clinton by four points, netting her 52% of the vote to Barack Obama's 48%. This is a respectable win, though not a margin I find particularly comforting. Meanwhile, North Carolina held solid for Obama, giving him 56% of the vote to Clinton's 42% - a twelve point lead. While Obama was expected to win that state, I was hoping that Clinton could further narrow the gap if not tie with Obama.

Still, Obama himself referred to Indiana as a "tie-breaker," and that state went for Clinton, so the primary goes on. The bastard mainstream media is already crowing about what a huge victory North Carolina is (as if the state will come out for the Democrats in the general election - it's gone republican since 1988), and how Clinton should drop out again, blah, blah, blah...

I refuse to let the mainstream media coronate Obama. Frankly, the spin and slant have made me queasy.

The worst part about these results, however, was Obama's North Carolina victory speech, where he claimed that his was a win against "politics of division and the politics of distraction." How he could claim this with a straight face, I don't know, as the votes were pretty much evenly divided between racial lines: African-Americans overwhelmingly voted for Obama, while a majority of Caucasians voted for Clinton. This, to me, does not sound at all like a win against "division" - political or otherwise.
