Musician's Friend sends me a free catalogue every month in the hopes that I will buy something while I peruse each new catalogue wishing I could afford the goodies inside. One product I haven't seen before is this DJ console which allows one to play music from an iPod. While I've seen iPod DJ units before, this one is different in that, rather than mixing two separate iPods, it only requires one, somehow enabling the user to play two songs from it simultaneously.

While I'd long bemoaned the slow demise of vinyl and CDs for DJs in favour of laptops, I have to admit that this is one toy I'd like to play with (and probably the only reason I'd ever consider buying an iPod). The sad truth is that I've already ripped all of my CDs to MP3s and the sheer convenience of not having to lug around stacks of discs in order to have a huge catalogue of music available is just too tempting.

Now all I need is $550 and an iPod...and a working computer so I could transfer all my MP3s.

Interesting. But I find it annoying that it doesn't allow for other MP3 players, at least, from what I can tell. I have a Creative Zen and love it and refuse to use an iPod. Oh, well.

I agree about the temptation to stop lugging around 400 CDs every time I dj and just dump the "spinable" stuff on to my laptop. Especially now that I am djing so little. But about 1/4 of my collection is not ripped yet (approx 300 CDs). Sigh. I wish I had an intern who could do this for me while I am work. :)
