I decided to set my alarm clock for 2:30 this afternoon to hear the Capital Steps April Fools special on NPR. Given the hours of my new job, I'd usually have my alarm set for 3:00 or 4:00PM, depending on how much time I wanted to waste before actually going to work. As it stood, the programme was only a half hour long and I was able to catch a quick nap during the previously mentioned stretch of time.

In any case, as expected, this year's special focused on bucking the war with Iraq. I listened with great glee as a beautifully humourous liberal bent poured from my speakers. I knew the show was going to be good when one of the first lines began something like this:

Dubya Bush: Now, there have been some accusations that I have cheated on my wife. These are completely untrue. Our relationship has been and always will be monotonous.

And it just got better from there.

In other news, I found out last night that I have Fridays off. On the downside, this means that I have to go in Sunday evenings. This isn't too much of an issue, as it does leave my weekends free, and I never get so drunk Saturday nights that I would find myself unable to function by 9:30PM on a Sunday.

The reason for the confusion - I had thought that I would be working Monday-Friday, rather than Sunday-Thursday - was that my place of employment uses a different time card system than my temp agency. Since I would in Sunday evening at 9:30PM and leave the next morning at 6:00AM, that means that I technically would only be at work for two and a half hours on Sunday and for six hours on Monday. Since the majority of the time spent there is on a Monday, they count it as a Monday's worth of work. It actually makes more sense to me. As an aside, I wouldn't be able to get into the building on Fridays even if I wanted to as it is closed.

As I pontificated on my newfound Friday freedom one major thought came to mind: I could now go to Antiquity without asking for a day off. Antiquity is Pittsburgh's classic Goth night - the one the spookykids can't attend because 1.) they don't know who Ian Curtis is and 2.) the event is 21+ only. It is held on the last Friday of every month at Club Laga in Oakland (plug, plug). I went to the one that closed out March and thoroughly loved it. As I have nothing to impede me from doing so, I plan on attending at the end of April now.

One thing that does concern me is that the April Antiquity may be the last one. The one I went to last Friday didn't seem to have many people in attendance - perhaps 60 or 70 at most. Rumour has it that the regular clientele went to a crappy fetish show, under the mistaken impression that such a thing would be better than a night of classic Goth. My hope is that the place is packed (though not uncomfortable) come the final Friday of April. Club owners are like gods of their own domains and if something doesn't bring in the money, they tend to smite it.
