The Allegheny County Port Authority recently had an open forum regarding the budget woes facing Pittsburgh's mass transit system. Due to my work schedule, I was unable to attend, much to my chagrin, however a recent Post-Gazette article highlighted what has to be the most off-the-wall "solution" I have ever encountered.
The proposal offered by one commentator was to "urged the authority to maintain its present schedule until the money runs out" thereby forcing the state to intervene. Still being new to Pennsylvania, I have little understanding of this state's political nuances (or insanities). Therefore, this idea, like so many others, will either work like a charm or fail miserably if implemented.
Honestly, I kind of like the proposal, save the risk of completely losing my only method of independant locomotion around large areas of Pittsburgh. The idea has the same kind of appeal that driving with the needle pointed clearly at "E" has: you know in your heart that it's stupid, yet the excitement of the risk is incredibly tempting.
The question though is whether or not the state will be willing to play AAA...
