I broke up with the girl yesterday morning. She called me up and canceled our Friday get-together, so I called her back and canceled on her permanently. These cancellations of her's had become chronic, sending me a meta-message much stronger than her verbalizations of "I care about you" and "I love you." She then returned my call and told me that she had lied about her reasons for canceling. She...lied...to...me...
If nothing else, I know where I stand on her list of priorities. Things are messy right now. Let's not chat about despair...

It will cause her to sprout massive amounts of facial hair. Like Kenny Rogers.

Date: 2003-07-04 12:02 pm (UTC)(Kevin here) As you've found out, a REAL relationship takes a lot of time and effort, from both parties. In the future, here are some things you may want to consider:
1] It is NEVER appropriate to disparage your partner's faith! Crystal is a Wiccan, and her faith is part of who she is. If there wasn't room for your ego as well as her faith, you should have realized that, and discussed it. I don't practice my boyfriend's faith, but I support him practicing what he believes, even when I have to take a back-seat to it.
2] Writing breakup songs is THE MOST juvenile, selfish thing any alleged musician can do. Think of your audience instead of your own ego - who the HELL wants to hear someone whine?
3] Yes, she lied to you. Did you ever take responsibility for your own actions before? Did you ever stop and ask yourself what had you done to make her feel like she had to lie to you? In the years I've known her, I can honestly say that she is one of the most consistently honest people I've met. Wonder what changed that where you were concerned...?
Finally, there are no "sides" to take when two friends break up. IMHO, she WAS lazy and didn't put enough effort into the relationship. I hope that in the future there will be better, more honest communication from all parties involved.

Date: 2003-07-05 08:43 am (UTC)2 - I have no audience. I write what I feel and if I'm juvenile for it, then so be it. As far as people not wanting to hear whining: if that is true, then why is "emo" such a hot trend and how did The Smiths sell any records?
3 - I don't know how to answer this one.

Date: 2003-07-05 01:08 pm (UTC)Kevin, I would have to disagree with your #2, because some of the best lyrics (and poetry, in my case, because I haven't been able to put together lyrics yet) come from extreme emotions. If they are about break-ups, so they are about break-ups. Whatever compells you to write.
