Oh, and we're both Atkins people... so we're both part of the "cult" *grin* It's got to be hard for you, with illusion_of_joy wanting to keep you plump. :)
I've actually just started up Induction again, to kick myself in the butt. I'd been stagnant for a few months...
Frankly, dears, I wouldnt recommend Atkins. Its high fat content is very damaging to the liver. My uncle died from cirrhosis (sp?) of the liver 2 months ago, due to Atkins. If you're going to go low carb, go South Beach. Am trying a modified version of it right now, and it seems to be cool...oh and if you're wondering who I am, just a random buddy of illusion_of_joy's. Good luck :)
This is as much as I will touch about this in illusion_of_joy's journal- but thanks to Atkins, I lose 90 pounds in 7 months. I get my blood tested often, and my numbers have never been better. But thank you.
First of all, let me say how terribly sorry I am to hear about your loss. Even if you weren't close to him, losing a family member always hits a little closer to home, ya know? **hugs**
Is it possible he did Atkins back in the 70s, or was old enough to remember it from back then? It was a drastically different diet at the time; you were supposed to remove *all* carbs from your diet. A lot of people are remembering the old diet and not reading the current book, so are actually doing an extremely dangerous, outdated version of Atkins.
There's a lot of carbs and vitamins in the current version of Atkins; at the lowest level (Induction), you're supposed to eat 20 grams of carbs in the form of 3 *cups* of veggies. That's more veggies than I ever eat on my own; it's forcing me into a more healthy diet structure.
My bloodwork has been coming out fine, thankfully, and I've been doing this since last October. I've lost 65 pounds, between Atkins and weight lifting... and I've gained about 20 lbs of muscle. So I guess that means I've lost about 85 lbs of fat. :)
Thank you for your concern; I know when people say things like this, it is out of true desire to be helpful, and I sincerely appreciate it.
(again, sorry, Seth! I'll shut up on your journal now!)
