The Geeks still have my computer!

It has been a week and a half since I took my beloved PC to the Geek Squad to be de-trojaned. They told me they would call with an update, but given the amount of time that had elapsed, I decided to call in this afternoon to see what, if anything, was happening. On the first call, I let the phone ring six times before giving up. When I tried calling again an hour later, I let the phone ring ten times before giving up. I will try again tomorrow and if I don't speak to a human being, I will drive down to Best Buy in person to ask about my computer. I'm nearing two weeks without my studio here!

Oh man. I actually repair / clean / rebuild computers on the side and charge very, very little!

When I worked for Pitt's tech support department, the general consensus was "punish the stupid people". They *purposefully* took forever with repairs and overcharged people like crazy when they did work on the side.

The same principles have been applied to the Geek Squad and others like it. I have a friend who ended up there and he has told me about the ridiculous overcharges, slow repair times and grossly incompetent staff.

There have even been instances where the staff has planted things in peoples PCs so that they will eventually have to return and have it fixed again. They do get bonuses / commission for much of their work. It's just like crooked car repair people.

I seriously hope you get yours back soon and without any further problems. In the future, if you have any issues, please do not hesitate to ask me. I have been helping people with their PCs for over 10 years.

I wish I had known this nearly $400 ago. I finally got an update from the Geeks and was told "the virus is so bad we're going to have to completely reinstall XP." So, I paid to have my data backed up on top of the amount I already paid to have the virus removed.

The thing that frustrates me the most about this, however, is the fact that I built this computer which would seem to imply that I should be able to have solved this myself. Nope. Thanks for the well-wishing; I do hope I get my baby back soon and someday have money again to upgrade it.
